Tonkotsu Kazan

The volcano ramen has been around for ages. I've been to the branch in Novena. Both branches are small with limited seats, so it's not always easy to get a table. However, we were able to secure a table this time. My curry volcano ramen is nice, the cha shu slices were thick and tender, very good. It's large enough for two as I wasn't able to finish it. It also comes with rice (which they forgot to give me but it's ok, I was full), you are encouraged to add your leftover broth to it for round two. The fried chicken and don were tasty too, as was the refreshing salad.

Tried Volcano Ramen at Bukit Panjang Plaza, and it was a solid experience! I had the beef bowl, which tasted quite similar to Yoshinoya’s—flavorful and satisfying. My wife had ramen (forgot which one!), but she said it was good. A nice bonus: they offer free eggs! Overall, a decent place for a quick and tasty meal.

Can’t go wrong. Perfect pairing for ramen or karaage. Apple Chu-Hai – $7.00 Light, bubbly, and refreshing with a soft apple flavour. Not too boozy, just the right kind of casual drink for a laid-back dinner. 🍜 Volcano Kazan Style Beef Sukiyaki Ramen – $18.80 The star of the show. This Kazan-style ramen comes with a volcano-shaped lid that traps heat and smokes—makes for quite the visual moment. The raw beef slices cook under the lid, and once it’s lifted, you’re left with a super rich, soy-based beefy broth. The broth was sweet too, thanks to the generous amount of cabbage and beansprouts. Bonus: they give you a bowl of rice to enjoy with the broth afterward! You can also request raw garlic cloves to mash in, and sesame powder to tweak the flavours. So satisfying and rich! 🌶️ LIMITED TIME: Curry Tantan Noodle – $13.80 A thick, creamy, sesame-based broth with a strong curry aroma. Topped with spicy minced meat—it’s bold and nutty. Personally, this was a bit too heavy for me; it leaned more gravy than soup. Think: spicy Japanese tantanmen with a rich curry aroma. Definitely flavour-packed, just not for when you want something light. 🍗 Chicken Nanban – $7.80 These are crispy, tender fried chicken bites with a chunky onion-forward nanban sauce—not your usual creamy style. Great for sharing, but just a heads-up: very oniony. 🥟 Yaki Gyoza (6pcs) – $6.30 Nice chewy skin and a solid gyoza option for the table. Only wish the pan-fried side was crispier, but it still hit the spot.

Small but fit shop for a ramen gathering. I ordered the Karamiso ramen for $13.80+. After GST and Svc charge it became $16+. The best is the chashu which gave me a wow! factor. Will come back if craving ramen again.

Small little corner joint at BPP. Spicy ramen, actually not very spicy. Broth alittle on the salty side, doesn't have that umami rich flavor. Almost tasted like a normal boiled soup. Comes with complimentary hard boiled eggs. Overall, still a good eat.

Come here a few times per year. Excellent food! Also thrilled that Japanese Kobe bakery is opening right opposite this place. Will complete my occasional Japanese fix. 🤣
